The Island of Misfit Interfaces

I collect old video game controllers.

It's a reasonable hobby. Unlike old ("retro") games or consoles, you can still find plenty of old controllers for fair or dirt cheap prices. The controllers themselves have always been interesting to me because they represent the physical point of interaction between ourselves and the game we're trying to play. You can tell a lot about a game system and especially the market into which it was released by both the quality and quantity of third party controllers, along with the "problems" they tried to solve.

I was previously posting pictures of my collection on a blog on Atari Age but while doing some searches online for some of these controllers I came to the dread realization that my blog was frequently the first result in these searches. That made me feel a sudden sense of responsibility for how I put this information online so I'm going to transfer and eventually rewrite all of my old posts from there onto this platform.

Spoiler alert: The vast majority of the controllers on here are incredibly impractical and of no real use in the modern area other than curiosity or collector's sake. But you have to know that, or you wouldn't be here.
